Hello everyone. This is Yana Smakula and thank you for joining me today! For my today’s blog post I decided to create a card that could work for many different occasions using dies from Becca Feeken. I used Braided Grace Square and Graceful Sweet Words sets, as well as 6 x 6 Matting A and B dies.
I started working on my card by creating base panels using largest dies from the 6 x 6 Matting Basics A and B sets. I die-cut a larger panel out of gold foil cardstock and a smaller one out of patterned paper. After adhering patterned paper panel onto cardstock panel I adhered both onto a 6 x 6” top folding card base.
Next I used dies from the Braided Grace Square set – just the two larges dies and created two identical die cuts. I used pearlescent white cardstock and I die-cut and embossed both. Note: I removed the outer die before doing my embossing. I felt like embossing looked much better with the inner die only, it’s much cleaner this way.
I also created one die cut out of gold foil cardstock, same cardstock I used for my base panel. I die cut an additional looped square in my gold piece just to save some paper. I planned to layer this gold die cut under a pearlescent one so that only the edge is visible. I adhered one of my pearlescent die cuts onto gold die cuts and offset the top one slightly to create a beautiful gold edge to my pearlescent square.
Next I layered the second pearlescent die cut on top to create a medallion looking piece. Another element I added to my project was a border. I used Graceful Sweet Words Dies (the arches die and also the hugs insert) and again cut it twice – out of pearlescent white and gold foil cardstock.
I added double sided sticky tape to the back of my pearlescent paper to make it much easier to adhere the two pieces together. Just like I did with the Braided Grace Square, I adhered white die cut onto gold and offset them slightly so that a bit of gold was showing next to white.
If you don’t have gold foil cardstock, you can also use gold glitter – that would also look beautiful. Just make sure to get the kind of glitter paper that is die cuttable.
After adhering my die cut border onto my card I used my fingers and slightly lifted the arched border to make it appear dimensional. I foam mounted medallion in the middle of my panel overlapping the border. I also added a piece created using inner border die from the Braided Grace Square set cut out of same patterned paper I used for my background and a looped square cut out of gold foil cardstock.
Lastly, this card needed a sentiment. I added one that reads Sending Love. This sentiment comes from Altenew Beautiful Lady stamp set and it was heat embossed in gold embossing powder onto white cardstock. With this card design, however, you can use any other sentiment you like. This can be a birthday or an anniversary card or even a thank you piece. I also added a beautiful silk ribbon bow. I made it using May Arts 1¼ inch silk ribbon.
