Save the Date with Flower Garden Dies

I’m Sharyn Sowell, the Spellbinders artist whose designs are all snipped freehand using only a simple pair of scissors. I’m delighted to share a sneak peek at my new garden collection that will be released very soon.

This collection is a snapshot of a cottage garden, snipped in English gardens and my own little patch of green.

There’s going to be a wedding in my family and the planning is underway already. We’ve begun with Save the Date cards, and choosing papers and colors has never been more delightful. The intricate garden-themed dies are perfectly suited for any time you want a feminine, fresh floral look.

My dies are always intricately cut, with an eye toward layering. Have you noticed Spellbinders dies are an unusual color? That’s the teflon coating, which makes the tiny bits fall out easily, making even the most tiny cuts quick to accomplish.

Layering makes for projects that look difficult but actually aren’t, because the dies do all the work for you.

For this card, use a white folded card for the base and added a soft pink paper on the folded edge. Cut the Floral Photo Frame from solid color card stock. Cut two tiny cards and the word love from the Rose Bird Topiary die, saving one of the cards and the word to use on the envelope.

Print a photo for the front. I printed mine as a 4X6 and cut it down to fit. The frame is designed so there’s some flexibility on size. Glue the die cuts as shown and tuck the photo into the tab.

For the inside, cut Bird on Cherry Branch, using a white or cream card stock, and cut some colored flowers and leaves from little leftover scraps of colored paper. Using colored pencils or crayons, color as shown or in a way that coordinates with your color scheme. Don’t try to make it exact or picture-perfect; it’s not supposed to be a photo, but an artsy gardeny look.

Decorate with glitter, tiny rhinestones or as I did, with glittery glue. I used Stickles but you can use whatever you have on hand. Write or print your text on vellum, tuck a printed sheet below for a hint of pattern, and tie with a bit of silky ribbon. I like to glue them down as well to keep everything firmly in place.

It’s always fun to get a pretty envelope, so I used the rose corners and the “love” word on the back flap.

  2. Beverly, I’m so glad you enjoyed this peek. The other dies are just as much fun and so versatile. I just made a tiny book from the butterfly die today and will be posting pics of that on Instagram… and there is so much else we’ll be showing soon.

Be sure to tell your favorite local shop or online store you’re enjoying these dies so it’ll be easy for you to find them. Can’t wait to show you more projects from this collection in the near future.
