Upcycled Canvas Tote Using Quite Contrary Collection

Hi, it’s Christina here. Today we are going to decorate an inexpensive tote bag to carry all your crafty goodies. I have embellished with felt to give a textured look, using Spellbinders® Contour™ Steel Rule Dies. It is really easy to do – let me show you how.

Spellbinders Supplies:

Other Supplies:

  • Canvas Tote bag (15 x 18″)
  • Two shades of pink felt
  • Two shades of green felt
  • White pearls from Want2Scrap©
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks

Instructions:

With felt, cut many flower petals in two shades of pink using the Platinum™ Machine and the Hydrangea Florets steel rule dies from the Quite Contrary Collection by Debi Adams. You will be able to cut several layers in one pass using our Contour™ Steel Rule Dies through the Platinum™ Machine. Tip: if your felt is acrylic then sandwiching it between two sheets of cheap copier paper will help it to cut better.

Using two shades of green, cut the Trailing Leaf and Vine steel rule die. Separate some of the leaves from the vine on one of them to tuck in as needed.

Wash and iron the canvas bag. Have a dry run by laying the vine and flowers in the position as you like. Then with a hot glue gun, adhere them permanently to the bag.

Add in the layers of the flowers and use a piercing tip of the Tool ‘n One to push the soft felt into the glue. It will help to shape the petals too. I added a white pearl to the centre of each of the flowers.

And there we have it! A real pretty bag to take to the craft shows to hold all the pretty things I will be buying 🙂 For more ideas and inspiration please visit my blog at Flowers, Ribbons and Pearls. Until next time!
