T3: Tools, Tips and Techniques for Festive Graduation Cards

Every Tuesday at 4pm (Arizona time) FSJ comes to you LIVE on Facebook and YouTube for our T3 video – that stands for Tools, Tips, and Techniques. Recently, Kim Kesti shared two creative (and simple) handmade cards for graduation. Tis the season, right?

Today’s projects both begin with the Hats Off Die Set. On today’s video, Kim will show you step-by-step how to assemble this fun and festive graduation die set. The most fun part is that you can customize the mortarboard for whatever color you’d like. Use cardstock to match your graduate’s school colors, or just pick a color you love!

Once Kim assembled the die, she began creating the background of her first card. She used Black Licorice ink and stamped the starburst and sentiment from the Bravo Grad stamp set onto a Whip Cream panel. She purposely adhered her graduation cap at a fun angle so her starburst would still show. A little splattering of Gold Silk added a perfect finishing touch, (and it even matches the tassel.)

This card is clean and simple and perfect for your grad! You’ll want to watch the video below to see the special elements that Kim added to the inside of this card! It involves one of our best-loved dies plus a best loved-stamp set!

If you’re lacking a graduation stamp set, but you need to get some cards made, have no fear! Check out this perfect idea using the Birthday Candles stamp and coordinating die set. Always take a fresh look at your stamp sets, or as Kim says, “Shop your stash!” to see how you can repurpose what you have. “Celebrate Your Day” doesn’t only have to be a birthday sentiment. It’s perfect for the second graduation card!

This card has a more feminine look with some colorful printed paper and shades of pink and aqua. Kim placed the patterned paper onto the trimmer at an angle to create the fun triangles, then she overlapped them onto her card base. Watch the video below to see her do this simple technique! A white and pink mortarboard are so fresh and fun to pull together this graduation card.
