Die Cut and Emboss to Create this Sweet Interactive Card | Spellbinders Live

Join Kim Kesti in the Spellbinders Creative Classroom as she creates with the brand new Sweet Street Collection designed by Tina Smith. Tina’s Sweet Street is a yummy combination of dies and stamps to create a delicious array of sweet crafty projects. Craft up a bakery window loaded with goodies, or a Sweet Treat Box, filled with cookies, which features a lift-up lid. Make a cupcake pocket with a cherry on top, and a festive birthday cake with a layered surprise. Pair it all with the Sugar Coated Sentiments and the Sweet Sprinkles embellishments for the cutest treats around.

To make the layered cake that Kim features in today’s video, begin with the Layer Cake Surprise dies and some of Spellbinders brand new cardstock colors. You’ll notice that these dies have an extra embossed detail. It gives great texture to your colorful cakes with adorable dots and stripes.

In today’s video Kim shares her best tip for cutting and embossing with these dies.

Kim suggests the following sandwich on the Platinum: base plate, cutting plate, die (cutting edge facing up), paper, cutting plate. After die cutting, slide the die and paper off the bottom cutting plate and set it directly on the base plate. Add the mat and then embossing plate on top and run it through the machine again to emboss the details. You’ll gain some of the details in your initial pass as you die cut, but adding the second pass with the embossing mat will add extra deep impressions. Watch the whole process in action as Kim demonstrates. (We promise, it’s super simple!)

The most fun part of this die set is the interactive mechanism. Die cut and emboss all three cake layers and then slide them into each other using the slots on each layer. Finish off the layer cake with a fluffy layer of die-cut frosting in any flavor (or color) you choose!

Watch the video to see how Kim adds an inky background, a candle and tag to finish off this telescoping cake card. See the Layer Cake Surprise dies in action below or on the Spellbinders YouTube channel.
