Cardmaking,  Large Die of the Month

Join Kim Kesti and Kady Ward in the Creative Classroom as they mix and match border dies to create slimline cards.

In April of 2021, we released the popular Universal Curved Border Set as our Large Die of the Month. This fresh springtime die set has been so popular, we decided to create one for winter. The Christmas Foliage Strip & Borders is our Large Die of the Month for November.

All of the dies from these two sets have the same curve and they all work together beautifully. They can be used individually, or layered together for limitless possibilities. Some of the dies cut edges or windows, some emboss, and both sets include extras little coordinating floral and greenery dies to add on. The dies fit a slimline length card, but they can be used for smaller cards too.

Kim extended a challenge to Kady to choose a die from each of these two sets to combine into a card design. While Kim heals from a hand injury, Kady is Kim’s left hand lady and Kim shows her how to layer the dies together on a sheet of cardstock, tape in place, and die cut together at the same time.

These dies are fairly detailed, so Kim recommends running them through the Platinum machine twice. Although they chose to use the Platinum machine for these longer dies, they do fit in the Platinum 6 (it’s just a tighter fit!)

Kim folded a white slimline card (8.5×3.5-inches) and the ladies work together to layer the die cut border onto the card base for an elegant tone on tone look with Snowdrift cardstock.

Kim and Kady mix and match some additional ideas with pieces they previously cut out. You’ll love all the ways to layer these dies, for holiday or year round projects.
