April 2022 Embossing Folder of the Month Kit – Card Inspiration with Annie Williams

Hi there, this is Annie Williams and I’m excited to be back on the blog today to share a couple of projects using the April Embossing Folder of the Month Kit from Spellbinders. With its versatile pattern and large size, the Radiant Burst Embossing Folder is perfect for drawing the eye to a focal point almost anywhere on your card front.

Shift the Center!

It’s natural to want to center your cardstock in an embossing folder, but the Radiant Burst design is begging to be moved around on your cards! Here I shifted the burst to the lower right corner of my card to draw attention to the sentiment on this bright and pretty birthday card.

  • Trim a piece of white cardstock to 4.25” x 5.5” and emboss it using the Radiant Burst Embossing Folder, ensuring that the burst is positioned in the lower right corner.
  • Adhere the embossed panel to a top-folding A2-sized white card base with liquid glue or a strong tape runner.
  • Apply Gold Hot Foil to white cardstock using one of the sentiments from the Glimmer Burst Plate Set and the Glimmer Hot Foil Machine.
  • Cut the sentiment out using the coordinating die.
  • Die-cut Mirror Gold Cardstock using the Small Circle Outer Rim and Insert Dies from the Fluted Classics Circles Die Set.
  • Adhere the layered sentiment over the burst design using foam adhesive.

Emboss Partially

Next, I wanted to add just the top of the burst design to my card front for a bit of a different look, so I used partial embossing to emphasize the pretty bouquet on this simple thank you card.

  • Trim a piece of Portobello Cardstock to 4” x 5.25” and emboss only the top two-thirds with the Radiant Burst Embossing Folder. (You can partially emboss a panel by either inserting only a portion of the panel into the folder or by adding a smaller top plate in your embossing sandwich positioned only over the area you would like embossed.)
  • Mat the debossed side of the panel with Mirror Gold Cardstock and adhere it to a top-folding A2-sized white card base with a tape runner.
  • Die-cut Pink Sand, Dahlia, Fern, Rainforest, Waterfall, white, and Mirror Gold Cardstock with the flower and stem dies and heavyweight vellum with the wrapper die from the Bouquet of Flowers die set. Assemble the bouquet with liquid glue.
  • Apply Gold Hot Foil to white cardstock using one of the sentiments from the Mini Sincere Sentiments Foil Plate Set and cut it out using the coordinating die.

Ink & Sand

I couldn’t help but think of an intergalactic movie intro when I saw this embossing folder, so I had a little fun inking next for this fun love card.
