Little Boy Scrapbook Layout with Seth Apter’s Dies
Hello, this is Elena here today sharing a layout made using dies from Seth Apter. These dies are fantastic if you are looking for fun shapes to use for any male or boy projects. While working on the layouts for my youngest son I found that it’s quite easy to create with mixed media techniques. This time I combined Seth Apter’s dies and mixed media. I started by prepping embellishments for my layout and made plenty of them in advance. I die-cut S4-810 Strands out of blue cardstock and used patterned paper for the S4-804 Coffee Break die. The main focus was on S4-813 Splat die – is is such an eye catching piece,…

Build Your Own Die Cuts
Hi gang. Seth Apter here with a new guest blog post. Like many of you, I have some favorite die sets that I find myself going back to and using over and over. My goal is always to make them look a bit different so that my projects don’t all resemble each other. This creative challenge is one of my favorite parts of making art. For me the solution is building my own die cuts. Instructions: I start by choosing or creating a background. For Starburst I painted black gesso on an 8.25 inch square of watercolor paper which I splattered with paint from multiple colors of paint pens. I…

Documenting Life in Art: Mixed-Media Art Journal Planner
Hi all. Seth Apter back on the blog and I am a man with a plan. Make that planner. Late last year I decided that I was going to document my life in art for every day of 2017. I wanted to be able to look back at the year and have a record of the happenings in my creative life. While I do not have time to actually work in my journal daily, I have found time to document multiple days at a time and by the end of the year, I plan to have all 365 days covered in my journal. To create my journal, I used…

It is All in the Detail
Hi all. Seth Apter back on the blog, sharing a recent piece that I have created. One of my mottos when it comes to mixed media is more is more. There is always room for one more layer or a little more texture. But I also have another motto and that is it is all in the details. I have learned that even the smallest detail, perhaps not even noticed at first glance, can elevate your artwork. Put those two mottos together and I bet you can guess that I like a lot of detail. This piece includes the usual suspects in much of my art: hand painted paper, die…
