Holiday 2019 Inspiration | Foiled Christmas Cards with Marie

Hello, Spellbinder friends! It’s Marie here, from Marie Nicole Designs. I am so excited to be guest designing for the Spellbinder’s blog today! I just had to share these holiday glimmer sets with you. They are so pretty and perfect for getting a head start on your Christmas cards! I’ve created several cards to share with you today, so let’s get started!

Vellum Foiled Merry Christmas Card

This first card I created using the Ornament Glimmer Set, and added the sentiment with the Merry Christmas Banner Glimmer Plate.

I first used all the dies from the Ornament Glimmer Set to cut out a number of poinsettias and greenery from colored cardstock. I then inked the edges of the die cuts just to add a little more depth and interest. Once all of my cutting and inking was finished, I arranged the die cuts onto a piece of white glitter cardstock, and glued them down with liquid glue.

I added the sentiment by glimmering the Merry Christmas Banner Plate on a piece of vellum. I wanted to use vellum so that you can still see a bit of the background behind the sentiment. Glimmering on vellum is possible, you might just want to add a few shims in order to get enough pressure for a nice foil transfer. I made a process video of this card, so if you want to watch it, check out my YouTube video HERE!

Merry Christmas Foiled Cards

My next cards are very similar to my first! I created the die cut background the same way I did with my first card. I used the Ornament Glimmer Set with all the flower and greenery dies to create a die cut background on top of glitter cardstock. I absolutely love the look of these die cuts on a shimmery background!

I used a red glitter cardstock, as well as the white again. For the sentiments on these cards, I used the Holiday Sentiments Glimmer Set. This set has a number of words that you can mix and match to create holiday and New Year’s sentiments! I went with a simple “Merry Christmas”, and glimmered it on a strip of cardstock that the die in the set cuts out. I used gold and mate gold foils for the sentiments!

After popping the sentiments up on foam adhesive, I added gold sequins to the middles of the poinsettias, and that finished the cards!

Reindeer Games Foiled Card

Last, but not least, is this darling Christmas card! I love how the Reindeer Games Glimmer Plate can almost be a full card in itself! The fonts and design is so pretty, I really wanted it to stand out! I foiled this plate onto some dark red cardstock, trimmed down to size, and then set it aside as I worked on the background.

I used the Barn Wall Embossing Folder from FSJ to emboss onto some kraft cardstock, and then added some more color by ink blending several different colors of brown over the top. I then splattered the embossed background with some gold watercolor.

I remembered that I had some dies in my stash that would allow me to build a reindeer face (from November 2018 Deer Santa Card Kit of the Month – SOLD OUT) so I couldn’t resist using them on this card! I cut the pieces, assembled them, and added them right under the glimmered sentiment that I popped up on foam adhesive. It doesn’t show up too well on the camera, but I also added some shimmer with a glitter pen to the reindeer’s ears and nose. Super simple, but super cute!
