Scenic Snapshots Collection Inspiration | Harvest & Christmas Cards with Jean

Hello! I’m Jean, a papercrafter blogging at Right as Rain. I am delighted to be on the blog today sharing projects created with supplies from the Scenic Snapshots Collection. While my cards are fall- and winter-themed, know that the collection includes die sets for spring– and summer-themed projects. Fall and winter are special seasons bringing cooler temperatures, shorter days, and beautiful foliage. I love the change of seasons, and I’m drawn to rich colors and lots of texture. You’ll see evidence of that in the cards.

Harvestime Card

Let’s start with the cards celebrating the Harvest season created with the Harvestime Snapshots die set one also uses the Santa’s Workshop die set and the other does not.

With the Santa’s Workshop die set, it’s easy to make a harvest scene with the barn, rolling hills, and turning trees contained within the cloche. I’ve used the Harvestime Snapshots set’s die-cut sentiment and created a card entirely from dies.

I began by cutting and assembling the barn, tree, and sky with sun. With those colors chosen, I selected four shades of green for the rolling hills. I wanted bright colors that still felt “fall like.” I like incorporating texture into fall-themed cards. To add a rustic feel, I cut the cloche base from woodgrain cardstock. The background was dry-embossed, and I used the woodgrain cardstock for the card base as well.

Happy Harvest Card

My CAS card created without the cloche puts the focus on the Harvestime Snapshots set’s barn.

To begin, I cut and assembled the barn. To add textural interest, I dry-embossed the background with the Bright Days folder and added it to the card base. I used one of the Harvestime Snapshots set’s rolling hills and a circle to ground the barn. When I attached the circle to the dry-embossed background, I positioned it at the center of the rays in the Bright Days background. With those pieces attached, I added a few of the set’s sunflowers for additional color and interest. I’m always finding new ways to use the small dies in Spellbinders sets for extra embellishment. I added a sentiment created on my computer.

Merry Christmas Card

On the Christmas-themed card, I used the Santa’s Workshop set without the cloche. My card evokes a snowy evening; I included a number of subtle details to set the scene.

For the card base, I stamped the Flannel Life Background on to Cranberry Bliss cardstock with coordinating ink.

For the card background, I stamped the sentiment, from the All Year Long set, on to Whip Cream cardstock and then applied Distress Oxide ink to the upper portion while masking the lower portion. To create the snowy sky, I cut vellum with the Santa’s Workshop set’s snowfall die to create a stencil through which I applied Modeling Paste.

While the background dried, I cut the pieces for the house, deer, and trees. I assembled the house with glue. To add snowfall to the trees, I applied clear pigment ink to the boughs and heat-embossed with a puff powder.

Once dry, I added the background to the card base and assembled the scene using dot-roller and and foam adhesive.
